Samhain / All Hallow's Eve
October 31st - November 1st
The Time of the Crone / The Veil Between the Two Worlds is Thinnest / The Third Harvest
For some, this time of year marks the end of the year, for some the beginning. Beginning or end, it is time to celebrate the final harvest. Have we reaped enough from our growing season to sustain us through the winter? It’s time to take stock. We prepare our shelters and larders for the short days and long nights that lie ahead. And then, on Samhain, when the veil between the worlds thin, we turn inwards to connect to the ancestors that have gone before us. We honor the wisdom of the crone, and the ancient ones. They have walked this path for eons and have truths to share if you care to listen. Those we have lost have messages as well.
On Samhain, we honor all that we have harvested this past year, spiritually as well as physically. We acknowledge and honor the teachings we’ve received; examine fears, take a look behind the masks. All that lives must die. Death is honored as is its due. Its presence reminds us to cherish life. Facing death, relishing life-entering the darkness with this grounding is an empowering way to enter into the dark days of winter. Treasure the love and laughter you’ve harvested this year as well, for it will surround you as you move toward the longest night of the year, which arrives at Winter Solstice.
